Toby J is a professional aerialist, acrobat and pole dancer who performs and teaches both nationally and internationally. He is a former American Cheerleader and Australian Sports Acrobatic Champion.
In 2009 he was convinced to hang up his leotard in favour of a pair of hot pants and try pole dancing (he's still not completely convinced on the hot pants and likes to pole in jeans as often as possible). Bringing pole and acrobatics together, he and his partner created what they called “Acro-pole” and in 2010 won the Open Pairs Division of the Asia Pacific Pole Dance Championships and went on to appear on Australia's Got Talent in 2011 and again in 2012 where they made it to the Semi Finals with their unique "Flying Pole" act. They won the pairs division at the Australian Pole Championships in 2013 and were Pole Art Champions (Pairs Division) at the International Pole Championships in 2013.
Toby has a business called ”The Pole Doctor” and specializes in pole set up and instruction, maintenance and safety checks, studio fit out and consulting. He also makes custom circus and performance apparatus and props.
He is an X-Pole Ambassador and has been a guest instructor and judge in Singapore, Europe, South Africa, the UK and USA, as well as numerous competitions and events throughout Australia. This is his 5th year at NAPDCC.
Toby has a strong and masculine style, his favourite pole move is the Iron X and he lives by the maxim "Keep it sideways".
